This 8-day bush and beach safari in KwaZulu-Natal combines a classic Big 5 safari with the diverse landscapes of South Africa’s wild coastline. The journey begins at Sungulwane Lodge, set within a quiet private reserve where the focus is on an intimate and uncrowded safari experience. Here, you’ll spend your days exploring the bush on game drives and guided walks, tracking wildlife and settling into the rhythm of safari life. The second part of the journey takes you to Makakatana Bay Lodge, located within the remarkable iSimangaliso Wetland Park. This region offers a completely different perspective, where wetlands, lakes, and coastline meet. Activities include game drives, a boat safari on Lake St Lucia, and time on the untouched beaches of the Indian Ocean. The result is a well-balanced safari experience—combining wildlife, scenery, and variety in one seamless journey.

Your safari begins on arrival at King Shaka International Airport, followed by a scenic road transfer to Sungulwane Lodge. As you leave the city behind, the landscape gradually shifts into wild bushveld. After checking in and settling into your room, you head out for your first afternoon game drive. This is your introduction to the reserve and its wildlife, with your guide beginning to track and interpret the environment. You return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and a relaxed first night in the bush.
