Your tour host
Doctor Makanyara Mukote, affectionately known as DOC, or Big DOC as most fellow safari guides call him, is a seasoned safari specialist who has led countless safaris across Eastern and Southern Africa. His warm and approachable nature allows him to build genuine personal connections with both clients and fellow guides. His ability to connect with local communities in over ten countries where he conducts safaris each year, combined with his extensive network within the safari industry, is truly rare. Big DOC began his guiding career in 2006 when he joined Safari Training Services in his home country of Zimbabwe. Two years later, he moved on to Field Environmental Conservation Africa (FECA) before relocating permanently to South Africa, where he worked in private game reserves in the Eastern Cape Province for several years. His passion for overlanding safaris eventually took over, leading him to join one of the continent’s leading adventure companies. There, he conducted multi-country safaris for nearly fifteen years. His deep love for nature, extensive experience in the African safari industry, and in-depth knowledge of diverse wildlife, flora, birdlife, cultures, and terrains make Big DOC the ultimate African safari guide.
